Welcome to the ETGG Course on Sustainable Travel & Tourism Certification for SMEs!
This course is designed specifically for SMEs to impart you – as an owner, manager or person in charge of sustainability in your company – the competence to understand what sustainable travel & tourism certification means for your business.
We will provide you knowledge regarding the basics on sustainability certification, discuss the benefits and challenges of it and we will guide you through the certificate jungle. Thus, taking this course will prepare and support/enable you to make your business more sustainable by using the ETGG Going Green 2030 Training System or at least specific tools of it. It will help you make evidence-based decisions to guide your business to high quality 3rd party sustainability certification. This module explains the general need for sustainable tourism development and the basic functions of certification. It includes the questions: What is sustainability? Why are certifications important for sustainable tourism? For additional support and to familiarise SMEs with current sustainability issues reference is made to helpful guides and websites.
This module introduces the main characteristics of certification systems. A short digression describes the role and importance of the GSTC.
This module provides an overview of the benefits and challenges of sustainable tourism certification.
This module gives a brief overview of the current situation of sustainability certificates in the EU. It also presents tools and quality criteria that can help in the selection of a certificate. Furthermore, the "Certification Quickfinder" is presented and the use of the tool is promoted.
This module summarizes final information about obtaining a certificate for an SME. The tools 'Good Practice Browser' and 'Green Travel Maps' will be introduced to promote certification through positive examples and to provide new 'green' ideas.
